Breast cancer screening using MR mammography
MRI scanning of the female breast is a particularly safe and radiation-free method for the early detection of breast cancer. We recommend that women over the age of 40 should be examined for pathological changes in their breast tissue on an annual basis.
Compared with traditional mammography, MRI scanning has a number of advantages: a particularly high diagnostic reliability, no exposure to x-rays, and the breast does not have to be put under painful pressure. Furthermore, it has been proven that this method of screening is more likely to detect tumors at an early stage of development.
The best time for an MRI examination of the breast tissue is between the 7th – 14th day of the menstrual cycle. During this time, the breast tissue can be viewed and assessed particularly well. In the case that medical findings have already been made, these should definitely be brought with you to the MRI appointment.
